Botanic Garden Monte Baldo

A garden situated on Mount Baldo at 1200 meters

It was founded to increase the value of the extraordinary flora of Monte Baldo, called "Hortus Europae" (The Garden of Europe).

It is situated at an altitude of 1232 meters, in Località Novezzina, not too far away from Ferrara di Monte Baldo, and it is run by the Mountain Community of Monte Baldo and the Corps of Foresters of the State. 
It was founded to increase the value of the extraordinary flora of Baldo. On the coast of the Lake and on the low slopes of Valdadige you can find the evergreen sub-mediterranean species; higher, it is possible to find alpine species. The variety of the species of this area attracted the attention of the botanists in the past, who recognized then for the first time a lot of species that were still unknown. This fact explains why a lot of flowers have the name of "Baldense" (Anemone Baldense T., Galium Baldense Spr., Knautia Baldensis Kern etc.), and also why Monte Baldo is called "Hortus Europae" (The Garden of Europe). In the garden are gathered several hundreds of species typical of Monte Baldo. 
The environment is maintained following the natural aspect of the mountain, in order to allow the people to visit a place rich in species naturally grown and identified by labels. In the alpine hut of the park it is possible to do meetings and conferences, and even to organize ecological holidays.

The new cableway, unique in the world with its rotating cabins, carries from Malcesine to Monte Baldo in only ten minutes.

Open every day from h. 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. Guided visits in English language too.
